When I first power up the system my radio comes up and I can change stations by sing the f/forward and reverse button next to the reset button. My GPOS comes up with a small PIP which blocks me from seeing what is in the blue screen,I believe it's no software available. Normally the reset should have brought it back to the start, with the various menus showing on the display and where you could then get into the settings.

You say that you have had it out of the car and left it out for a whole day, and then re-installed it, did a reset, but it still didn't come back to normal. It should have, unless there are some wiring up faults, which in turn could have done some electrical damage to the unit.

(The screen, and the whole unit for that matter, can get quite warm normally, but if it is really hot it would indicate serious problems) Are you sure that you have the wiring into the car correct. Was there a wiring diagram supplied?
