Personally, I really don't care that much about Fakemon most of the time. Far too often they're just poorly designed and executed.

They lack good designs and balance. A lot of the Fakemon that I've seen are either two animals or objects simply meshed together, maybe throw a bit of fire or something on it to show type. And their names are the same. I've seen some so lame such as 'Flamedog' for a fire-type dog (duh) and 'Leafcheep' for a grass-type bird and other dull names like that. Most Fakemon games are met with disregard at the start, or so I've seen, as most of the time the developer really doesn't have any experience and is only making what they think is cool, rather than things that would be well balanced and fitting.

I know that designing Fakemon is hard, but when it's not done well enough, it can really kill the vibe. Even with the highly-acclaimed Fakemon games, I don't really get hooked. Maybe not because of bad design, though. It might just be because I grew up in the Gen 4 - 5 era, and all of those 649 Pokemon feel legit, while Gen 6 and the upcoming Gen 7 just feel so. I'm much more familiar and comfortable with the official Pokemon. This might make more sense to me than you, but Fakemon just seem fake to me.

That being said, there's nothing wrong with using the official Pokemon in a game. Sure, everyone and their great-grandma (and their not-so-great ones too) use the official Pokemon, but that should be a small aspect of it (though it wouldn't hurt to do something a little more unique with the official Pokemon, such as new forms or new megas or the like). Games aren't considered great simply for whether or not they use Fakemon or not. There's so much more to base an opinion of the game off of. While having Fakemon might potentially draw some more attention (if done well even in the slightest) because it's a little bit more unique, people shouldn't just disregard a game that doesn't have them simply because it uses official Pokemon.
